  Description of Seminar/Conference

This seminar includes 3 workshops:

You Had Me at Sniff: Understanding Dog-Dog Interactions (Sat, Feb. 18th, 9a-5p)
Dog-to-dog interactions are difficult to master. Because we don’t speak Dog, and dogs don’t speak English, we are stuck with interpreting what we see… and sometimes, we are wrong. It can be hard to know what to do. But we want to get it right.

We all have the same questions and worries when two or more dogs are together. Are we being too cautious? Or too careless? Do we just “let them work it out” or try to orchestrate pleasant encounters? When is it okay to put two dogs together? What is play and what is not play? What is a suitable playmate? Do size or age differences matter? Argument or serious fight?

Practical information and techniques will be discussed (and demonstrated as possible).

See The Dog: The Elemental Questions (Sat, Feb. 18th, 6p-9p)
A workshop that explores many ways to see how dogs can tell us about the world inside their heads. How the dog responds to life is highly individual, blending temperament with personality and history — and of course, the environment and others around him. Understanding the dog within the context of this complex blend of information helps handlers work to modify and adapt their handling and goals for enhanced relationships and better performance.

Whatever your training goals or sport, the Elemental QuestionsTM help you truly “see the dog” and provide the detailed information about each animal as he is. This is where truly humane training is grounded: in detailed knowledge about the individual dog.

Drive, Brakes, and Steering: Understanding and Modulating Arousal (Sun, Feb. 19th, 9a-5p)
All trainers struggle with the wide range of training and behavior issues that have their origin in arousal, sensory stimulation and reactivity. Whether you’re an old pro or a new trainer, you and your dog will benefit from Suzanne Clothier’s approach to understanding arousal, reactivity, behavior and performance. Her Relationship Centered Approach is sensible, humane and effective.

This seminar will help all handlers deepen their understanding of arousal, reactivity, how dogs think & learn (or don’t!) when aroused, perfect performance vs. perfect train wreck, and how to help their dogs be the best they can be.

Practical exercises will help you and your dog find the sweet spot of connection and cooperation.
