Description of Seminar/Conference |
| |
|
Dr. Ian Dunbar was an integral part of the longest research project ever conducted on dog behavior: a 30-year long Yale / UC Berkeley study
that radically changed our understanding of how dogs learn and how they can be trained. Many of the findings had powerful practical applications, particularly for the treatment of fearfulness, reactivity and aggression.
Topics include:
- The complex nature of canine social structure and the debunking of the"Dominance Myth";
- The proof that temperament can be modified;
- The overwhelming urgency of Puppy Play, Bite Inhibition and developing Social Savvy as puppies;
- The importance of variable-age (and variable size/breed) socialization groups for building confidence and resolving fearfulness and bullying;
- The need for objective quantification of danger for dog fights (using wound pathology);
- The Behavioral Model of Biting where multiple subliminal stimuli can provoke a single behavior
