Who knows what the dog’s nose knows? is a 90 minute webinar, live online on February 17, 2016 and then recorded for OnDemand purchase and viewing. Dogs’ superior olfactory capabilities are well known and deployed worldwide for the detection of a variety of chemicals. The science of canine olfaction, however, has not kept pace with the applications of detection dogs. In this talk, we will go on a whirlwind tour of the scientific literature on canine olfaction. Dr. Hall will briefly highlight which hypotheses have empirical support and which do not. For example, what does the scientific literature say about which breed is best, or how sensitive the dog’s nose is compared to humans? He will also discuss some of his ongoing research and will highlight what he thinks remains to be studied. A question and answer session will follow this webinar that will be moderated by Monique Udell, PhD.
