Canine Play, Including its Relationship to Aggression with Karen B. London
Using videos, slides, and examples from her case files, Dr. Karen London will discuss canine play. Both dog-dog and dog-human play will be covered. She will also discuss the relationship between aggression and play. Since aggression and play are so closely linked, considering them together provides great insight into both areas of canine behavior. Dr. London will talk about recent scientific developments about play that are relevant to anybody who is interested in or spends a lot of time with dogs.

The seminar will go over the reasons play can escalate into aggression, what play and aggression have in common, the value of both these normal, essential types of canine behavior, how to tell if dogs playing together are acting appropriately or are headed for trouble, and a discussion of dogs’ play signals. Also included will be a discussion of aggression in the context of conflict resolution, how following simple rules can prevent the escalation of play into aggression, the benefits and risks of common games people play with their dogs, and how play can be used to treat certain aggression cases.

Both Ends of the Leash with Patricia McConnell
Join Dr. McConnell in a benevolent, amusing and information-packed day that focuses on the behavior of the animals at BOTH ends of the leash. Beginning with an explanation of why WE do what we do around dogs, the day continues with a mix of training demonstrations, slides and video tapes. The seminar will hone your observational skills, not just in canine behavior, but in the profound effect that tiny, changes we trainers make in our voices and our bodies have on our dog’s behavior.
