Raised platforms have been used historically as a control method for animals (e.g. lion, elephant training). The basic concept is that animals not only understand staying on a raised pedestal but often feel safe elevated.
Michele Pouliot had used raised platforms occasionally as a training tool since the 1980s. In 2010, she realized the potential impact of this tool in many areas of dog training for basic skills and for competitive dog sports. What began as an expansion and development of specific platform training methods has evolved to an international platform phenomenon. Since Michele’s first Platform Training DVD in 2010, trainers all over the world have been discovering the power and simplicity of this training tool.
Over the past 7 years Michele has expanded, experienced, and discovered just how versatile the platform tool can be. Platform training should be in every dog trainer’s toolbox, regardless of your training goals.
This presentation will cover both platform training basics and demonstrate more advanced ways of using platforms to train new behaviors and to problem solve when having a training problem. Platforms are fantastic tools in training a large variety of behaviors and great problem solving tools.
